Another recipe from pinterest.com. Slow Cooker Pullled Pork...a can of root beer, a hunk of pork shoulder and a bottle of BBQ sauce. Super easy to throw together in the morning and come home to a delicious warm meal. Another Two Thumbs Up from my boys :) And a small perk for them, we bought a 2L bottle of root beer so we had root beer floats with the pulled pork sandwiches...YUM!!!

February Scrappy News

Can you believe it’s already February? I sure as heck can’t and even with the extra day, this month is just going to fly right by too. I have 3 weekend events this month…one down and two more to go. If you were at Ready Set Crop with me, Welcome to my monthly newsletter. The other two crops I will be at are Cool Crops Andover (Feb 17 -19) and Beth & Theresa’s Westboro Crop (Feb 24 – 26). Let me know if there’s anything you’d like to see me carrying or if you’d like to special order anything…I can get my hands on most anything ;)

Monthly Day Crops – Jean and I will be starting up our monthly day crops starting March 24 at a brand new location, the Prindle Conference Center in Charlton, MA. It’s a beautiful location and much bigger than our previous one. Crop fee is $40 and the crop runs from 9am to 9pm. Included in the fee are goodies, prizes, make-n-take (sometimes a project, other times a 2 page layout), lunch and dinner. Email me if you’d like to reserve your seat. Dates are 3/24, 4/21, 5/19 and 6/23.

Weekend in Westboro – We are also returning to the Doubletree Inn in Westboro, MA for our Weekend in Westboro, September 28 - 30. Email me (sluvs2skrap@yahoo.com) for more info and a registration form. Registration is now open!!!

Time2Scrap Blog – I have been trying to be diligent about updating my blog. Some days I don’t get to it but I do try my best. I hopped onto the Pinterest.com bandwagon over Christmas and am hooked. I love that I can bookmark recipes, links, etc by image. It makes it so much easier to find my links and recipes. There is also no point in pinning and then not trying the recipes so I'm also slowly working my way through the recipes I have pinned. The first recipe I tried was the Slow Cooker style Baked Potato Soup. Super easy and super yummy. I made ~half the recipe...whatever potatoes I had left of a 5lb bag, 48oz chicken broth, 1 block of 1/3 less fat cream cheese, less salt...you get the idea and it was delish! Both boys gave it two thumbs up :) Enjoy!

Slow Cooker Baked Potato Soup Ingredients:

5 pounds russet potatoes, washed but NOT peeled. Diced into 1/2 inch(ish) cubes
1 medium/large yellow onion, diced
10 cloves of garlic, minced
64 ounces (8 cups) chicken stock or broth
16 oz cream cheese, softened (I use low fat)
1 tablespoon seasoned salt
optional garnishes: crumbled bacon, shredded cheese, green onions

Slow Cooker Baked Potato Soup Directions:

Add potatoes, onion, garlic, seasoning, and chicken stock to slow cooker.
Cook on high for 6 hours or low for 10 hours.
Add the softened cream cheese and puree soup with an immersion blender until the cheese is incorporated and about half the soup is blended. (Alternately you could remove half the soup and the cream cheese to an upright blender, then re-incorporate).
Stir well, top with your choice of garnishes & enjoy!

Yields about 10-12 servings.

Ready for Copics?

I put this in my newsletter on Monday..."Another scrappy/crafty resolution of mine is to learn to use those Copic Markers I’ve been hearing/seeing so much of. Only problem is they are pricey. I can get them but have to buy in bulk. Is anyone out there in the same boat as I am? Want to start a copic collection but can’t afford to buy them all in one shot? I propose we start a Copic Club. I will choose a set of popular colors and every month, for six months, we buy a few colors. By the end of the 6 months we should have a set of approximately 36 colors. What say you? Let me know if you’re willing to commit to 6 months and I’ll have some details for you by the end of the week."

Here are the details as promised.
1. Each month I will pick 6 colors to purchase and ship to you by the end of the month.
2. Your cost will be $35.00 per month...this includes cost of markers, tax and shipping to you.
3. This club will run for 6 months...you are expected to commit for the entire 6 months. If you quit in the middle...we'll all be short markers and that's just not nice :(
4. You will need to provide a credit card to be kept on file. You can make a paypal payment instead if you choose, I'll still need the card on file.
5. We'll start in January and end in June. At the end of the club, we'll each have 36 marker plus blender and case.
6. These are the colors I'm proposing - see pic. How did I choose them? I did a search of which colors best to start with, communicated with an online instructor about colors for her class and came up with these. Most colors are exact, some are close.

7. A bonus for signing up, I will include the colorless blender in your January shipment, retail cost $7.
8. As a THANK YOU for sticking out the 6 months, I'll include the 36 marker case in your shipment at the end of the 6 months.

This month's colors are the skin tones and blush...E00, E02, E33, E35, E37 and R30 plus the colorless blender. You in? If you are shoot me an email at sluvs2skrap@yahoo.com and I'll send you a contract. Can't wait to get the markers in hand so I can start!!!

Happy Chinese New Year!!! Gong Xi Fa Cai!!!

I’ve got my first event of 2012 under my belt and am ready to roll. Have you scrapped in the new year yet? I managed to get 5 layouts done while I was at the crop and feel so accomplished. Does anyone have any scrapbooking related resolutions? I think I might have to shoot for a certain number of pages…5 layouts at a day crop…52 weekends in a year…200 layouts sound like a manageable number, no? 200 layouts a year it is. Anyone want to join me?

I’m going to kick off my first newsletter of 2012 with a Bazzill Bulk Buy. This year I’m going to tweak it a little…I find that I always need basic white and black so I’m going to add those colors to the buy. You’ll receive 12 different colors, 5 sheets of each color per buy. The cost of this buy is $25 (shipping to me and tax included). I can hold and deliver to you at crops. Those of you that know me and/or have attended my crops know I love a good scrap challenge. Recently, while checking my regular list of scrap challenge blogs, I came across a NEW challenge blog...Child's Play Challenges. Love the idea of using toys and games as scrapping inspiration. In fact, when I saw her first challenge, I knew right away which pictures I was going to use. This particular set of pictures have been sitting on my desk for months and I was stumped. Well not anymore! This here is the inspiration...

Pizza bites are a big hit with my kids and their friends. It's a fun alternative to pizza. I lay out the ingredients and have my boys help me roll them up. It's always a blast. And the last time I served this, I made a double batch and between me and 4 boys, it all disappeared!!!

Getting back to scrapping after a nice long hiatus, I think the last time I scrapped was back at our Just Scrappin crop in December. This past weekend, my boys had some friends over for a sleepover and I re-discovered my glue gun, paper trimmer, inks and papers with the coolest kit ever...I'll save it for another post ;)...scrapping while the boys played and watched the Patriots vs. Broncos game.

Shhhh...don't tell but it's been a while since I've made a card. I have a series of card classes coming up and the plan was to make some cards this wet and rainy morning. I turned on the computer, checked emails and came upon an email leading me to the Hero Arts Blog. I have to admit I don't have a lot of their stamps, in fact I have a minimal stamp collection but after looking through the blog, I think I may have to stock up. Grilled Salmon with Peanut Hoisin Sauce (from allrecipes.com)...a change from the usual teriyaki salmon I make for the family. This I serve with jasmine rice and a side of stir-fry veggies (Veggies, oil, soy sauce, minced garlic). Always a big hit!

Grilled Salmon with Peanut Hoisin Sauce

Ingredients

1/2 cup JIF® Creamy Peanut Butter
1/2 cup hoisin sauce
1/2 cup finely chopped onions
1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
1/2 cup water
2 cloves minced garlic
4 (6 ounce) salmon fillets
CRISCO® Cooking Spray
Salt and pepper
1/2 cup chopped scallions

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring often. Sauce can be made several days ahead of time and refrigerated. If it is too thick, just add a little water when heating it before serving.
Spray the salmon filets with CRISCO® Cooking Spray on both sides, and season with salt and pepper.
Grill until done to your liking. Top each grilled salmon filet with warm Peanut Hoisin Sauce and sprinkle with chopped scallions, just before serving. Enjoy!

Shrimp and Mushroom Linguini is what the recipe is called on the allrecipes website. I think it's an awesome copy of Olive Garden's Seafood Portofino. I halved the butter, added a dash (or two) of white wine and lobster to get the requested lobster meal for a birthday boy. Parsley and basil fresh from the garden. Very yummy!

Ingredients

1 (8 ounce) package linguini pasta
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 pound fresh mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup butter
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
3/4 teaspoon dried basil
2/3 cup boiling water
1/2 pound cooked shrimp

Directions

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add linguini, and cook until tender, about 7 minutes. Drain.
Meanwhile, heat 2 tablespoons butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add mushrooms; cook and stir until tender. Transfer to a plate.
In the same pan, melt 1/2 cup butter with the minced garlic. Stir in the cream cheese, breaking it up with a spoon as it melts. Stir in the parsley and basil. Simmer for 5 minutes. Mix in boiling water until sauce is smooth. Stir in cooked shrimp and mushrooms, and heat through.
Toss linguini with shrimp sauce, and serve.

ps. even the picky eater ate it without picking anything green out!!!!!!!!!

It's Summer

The first day of summer...the longest day of the year...LOVE IT! We packed up the league baseball season with a LL runner-up and a AAA champion :) The AAA'er started summer baseball and we are waiting to hear for the LL'er. 2 more days of school, a few more weeks of baseball...looking forward to this...

With that said, posting here will be sporadic at best. I will try to post at least once a week but no promises. Have a wonderful summer...see you in the fall!!! And if you haven't yet, seats still available for Just Scrappin' Weekend in Westboro.

It's been a busy month here and I really really wanted to scrap. When I saw the challenge up on the Scrap the Boys blog, I knew the exact picture to scrap and even the papers to use. The whole thing came together in under an hour and I even have hidden journaling :)

Hamburgers, french fries and pickles...now that's it's unofficially summer, the grill has been put to work. Hamburgers are a quick and easy meal be it veggie burgers, turkey burgers or beef burgers. It's all good and the boys gobble them up, no complaining about these meals. We are not big fans of pickles and have always happily left them out until last summer...I had an overabundance of dill and didn't know what to do with them. The only pickles I like are half sours and when I came across this post/recipe, I just had to try it. I made a batch and fell in love with them...last week, with dill ready for harvesting, I made the pickles again and shared with the ladies at our Just Scrappin' in Sturbridge crop. Everyone loved it and wanted the recipe...so here it is.

Dill Refrigerator Pickles

Ingredients
* 1 small sweet onion (such as Vidalia or Maui), thinly sliced
* 2 pounds medium pickling cucumbers, scrubbed, cut into 1/4-inch-thick rounds {I used 3 regular cukes}
* 1 large bunch dill, coarsely chopped (stems included) {fresh from my garden}
* 1 tablespoon yellow mustard seeds
* 2 teaspoons whole white peppercorns {only had seasoned pepper}
* 1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar {used half apple cider, half white vinegar}
* 1 cup water
* 1 cup sugar
* 3 tablespoons coarse kosher salt {used coarse sea salt}
* 2 teaspoons dill seeds {didn't have any so left it out}

Preparation
* Divide sliced onion between three recycled smuckers jelly jars. Pack cucumber slices horizontally in jars. Top each jar with dill.
* Using mortar and pestle or resealable plastic bag and mallet, crush mustard seeds and peppercorns together. Place crushed spices in medium saucepan. Add vinegar, water, sugar, coarse salt, and dill seeds. Bring mixture to boil over medium-high heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
* Ladle mixture evenly over cucumbers. Leave jars uncovered and chill 24 hours in fridge.
* Cover glass pickle jars tightly with lids. Do Ahead: Can be made 1 week ahead.
* Keep refrigerated.

An all day crop, wi-fi and a sketch challenge...I love to scrapbook with a sketch and a challenge in hand. This past Saturday was no different. I had brought minimal supplies with me to an all day crop and was stumped. I decided to search for a sketch online...one of the blog's I visited was Tiffany's blog. There I found this sketch challenge from the blog Sketches in Thyme.

Here's my interpretation of it...

No quite happy with the journaling...strips are fine, it's the story-telling I'm not happy with. It's easily remedied so I'll work on it later. Check out the websites and take the challenge. Leave me a comment if you do ;)

Chicken Dumpling Soup...perfect for a cloudy, rainy and cold day like today (or week). A recipe I discovered a couple of years back and is a hit with even my pickiest eaters.

Ingredients
4 skinless, boneless chicken breast
2 tablespoons butter
2 cans condensed cream of chicken soup
1 onion, finely diced
2 packages refrigerated biscuit dough, torn into pieces

Preparation
1. Place chicken, butter, soup and onion in a slow cooker. Fill with enough water to cover.
2. Cover and cook for 6-8 hours on LOW. About 30 minutes before serving, place torn biscuit dough in the slow cooker. Cook until the dough is no longer raw in the center.
3. Shred chicken and serve :)

When I make this...
- I leave out the butter and onions.
- use only 2 chicken breasts
- use only 1 package of dough and I quarter the biscuits instead of tearing.

Spotlight: Split Coast Stampers

Are you a stamper? I wasn't until I discovered acrylic stamps and card-making. I've since learned a lot and teach monthly card classes at the Holden Recreation Center. One of the websites that got me started and that I still go back to for ideas, tutorials and inspiration is the Splitcoaststampers website. This site is..."A gathering place for stampers - meet and talk with other members of the stamping community, check out the gallery where you'll find tons of paper craft project samples, share your own rubber stamping creations, catch up on the latest stamp and craft news, tips & techniques, or find out about upcoming events and happenings."

One of my favorites is their Wednesday tutorial...where they feature a new project or technique tutorial, featuring step-by-step instructions and lots of pictures! At a loss for a recipe to share...there's been a lot of evenings spent at the ball field. I know I've said that a lot and if you would like proof of exactly how many evenings, go HERE. There has been a gazillion quick and easy meals but most are the "open a jar" variety as well as my go-to's that have been featured here already. I do have a few in mind that I will get to in the coming weeks. For today, I'd like to link/share a recipe from Becky Higgins for Pesto Chicken with Vegetables that I came upon just this morning. Planning on picking up the fresh ingredients at the store later today and using up the last of my frozen pesto...yes I freeze my own, recipe found HERE.

Get it Scrapped is a "is a resource with lots of information about the creative AND practical aspects of memory keeping. It’s like the Home Repair book my husband goes to when the ice maker breaks and he doesn’t want to pay someone to fix it. He also goes there when he decides to do a project to pretty up the place. The thing is — Get It Scrapped! is not a static resource like that book of my husband’s. We’re continually adding to the information here–so it’s like a magazine on top of a how-to manual!"

I've been exploring this website for a bit and find the information/articles very eye opening. On top of information, there are classes as well as sketches and a neat forum that I have yet to delve into. Two articles on scrapbook design that I found interesting are "Tap the Power of Three" and "The 4 patterns that make mixing scrapbook papers a snap".

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! This is a recipe I discovered at Shaw's, one of their free recipe cards that I have since lost. It's a recipe for a TACO CASSEROLE that no one in my house complains about when I place it on the dinner table :) It's a quick, simple and yummy meal that's cooked in the oven. I've also prepped it in advance and come home to slip it in the oven.

Ingredients
12 Taco shells
1lb ground beef or turkey
1 cup shredded mexican mix cheese
1 packet taco seasoning
1 can refried beans
1 12oz can diced tomatoes
1 4oz can chopped green chilies
chopped fresh cilantro, to taste

Preparation
1. Cook ground meat until no longer pink. Add seasoning, 1/3 of diced tomatoes plus juice and cook following instructions.
2. Mix together refried beans, remaining diced tomatoes (drained), green chilies and cilantro.
3. Spray 9x13 pan with a little oil and spread bean mix evenly in the pan.
4. Heat oven to 400F
5. To assemble casserole - sprinkle cheese in the bottom of taco shell, spoon in meat and stand taco in the bean mix. Continue until pan is full :)
6. Sprinkle more cheese on top of tacos.
7. Cover with foil and place in oven. When mean mix is bubbly (about 20 minutes), remove foil and cook for another 5 minutes, or until tacos are crunchy.
8. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve with sour cream and guacamole if you like. Enjoy!!!

May Scrappy News

Hi all!

Spring is finally in full bloom here and life has gotten even busier. Baseball season started and we're spending every evening and weekend at the ball field. The vegetable garden is in, the yard needs work and the house needs cleaning *sigh*...it never ends, does it? Scrapbook retreat season is winding down, memory making season is ramping up :) That seems to be how it goes with us, how about you?

A few things to go over...
1. Just Scrappin' Weekend in Westboro
Seats for our weekend crop has been filling at record speed. If you would like to save your seat, please send in your deposit ASAP. Spotlight: My Creative Classroom

My Creative Classroom is an "online arts and crafts learning center. Our interactive and in-depth courses are instructor led and filled with wonderful projects and techniques to help you get the most out of your supplies." Head over and check it out. They have classes from beginner scrapbooking to how-to use your gypsy to copic coloring, etc.

I've only heard good things of them and in fact, am just finishing up a course with them...Sketch Support with Allison Davis and had a great time. Everything went smoothly, I got a ton of pages done and learned a LOT about sketches and how to get the most out of them as well as some great scrapbooking tips. We were given a sketch at the beginning of every week along with a sample page by Allison. She talks about what she did to change the sketch, the thought process, photos placement, embellishment choices, paper choices etc. Each week was a different topic with an assignment and challenge. Once we have finished our assigments, we shared in an online gallery and got feedback from her and everyone else in the class. Sharing and finishing assignments wasn't compulsory. Here's an example from week 4...learning how to embellish.

My interpretation of the sketch...assignment was to create a layout and adjust the title, journaling and/or embellishments to fit what you want to use.

And here is my assignment challenge layout. The challenge was to "create your own embellishments!" I had a hard time with this and finally settled on stamping the turtle, cutting out a shell from patterned papers and making the turtle x-ing sign from an embellishment I had on hand.

So easy to search/browse for the perfect title. Enjoy!

Rav'n Ravioli...a yummy meatless meal that my family enjoys. It's also quick and easy to pull together. It's a recipe from an old Pampered Chef recipe book...Main Dishes (copyrighted in 2000).

Rav'n Ravioli

Ingredients:
1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 tsp olive oil
1 garlic clove, chopped
1 (26-28oz) jar of spaghetti sauce
2 packages (9oz each) refrigerated ravioli
1 1/4 cups water
12 French bread baguette slices
1/4 cup butter, melted.
4 oz mozzarella cheese
1 oz fresh parmesan cheese

Preparation:
1. Preheat oven to 400F. Chop bell pepper and onion. Heat olive oil over med-high heat. Add bell pepper, onion and garlic. Cook 2-3 mins or until veggies are tender.
2. Stir in spaghetti sauce, ravioli and water. Bring to a boil and let it simmer ~10 minutes.
3. Slice french bread, melt butter and dip bread slices into butter, tossing to coat evenly.
4. Spoon half of the ravioli mix into a baking pan. Top with mozzarella cheese and the remaining ravioli mix.
5. Arrange bread slices, slightly overlapping around edge of the baking pan. Sprinkle parmesan cheese over bread and ravioli mix.
6. Bake in oven for 15 minutes or until ravioli is heated through and bread is crisp and deep golden brown.

Notes:
- I usually leave out step 1 entirely...my picky eater takes too long picking out all the greens.
- I've left the ravioli on the stove (turned off) and continued with the rest when we got home from practice/game/etc.
- To save a step (and a dirty bowl), I don't melt the butter...just slather it onto the bread slices ;)

Imaginisce is one of my favorite scrapbooking manufacturers and at Winter CHA, I think they outdid themselves with these TWO lines...Happy Camper and Berrylicious. Both lines have yet to hit the stores and I can't wait to get them in stock. Spotlight: Sketch Savvy Blog

Another sketch related spotlight...Sketch Savvy. Can you tell I love sketches? This blog is maintained by Susan Stringfellow and looks like she posts a sketch plus sample layouts on a daily basis. Occasionally there are also SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) cut files that can be used with the cricut machine.

I have been scrapping at home the last few weeks and am going to attempt a layout today using Sketch Savvy's sketch for today. I'll share here once I get it done. update: layout done. I managed to even dig through my stash and use some really old stuff I've been hanging on to for way too long!!!

What do you grab first when you start a layout? For me it's the photos, then the patterned papers and then the difficult process of finding cardstock that matches my patterned papers. The Fine Print

All classes are taught at the Holden Recreation Center in Holden, MA.
You have to call them at 508-829-0263 to reserve your seat.
If there are not enough students, the classes will be canceled. So make sure you bring some friends with you ;)
Space is also limited, so call and register early.
Please bring adhesive (tape runner is preferred), mini glue dots, 12’ paper trimmer and scissors. All other materials and tools will be provided.

Stuffed Shells...a freezer meal that has become a fave of ours. I found the recipe at "A Bear in the Kitchen" blog a while back after hopping from blog to blog. I love that I spend an hour in the kitchen prepping the shells and get TWO meals out of it. Enjoy!

Stuffed Shells (Freezer Meal)

1 package of jumbo shells (40)
4 cups or 2 lbs small curd cottage cheese (or ricotta)
2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
3/4 cup fresh grated Parmesan
2 eggs
1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley
1 tablespoon chopped fresh basil
3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 jars spaghetti sauce - one now, one for later

Preparation:
Cook jumbo shells for half the recommended time on the package, until just limp. Drain and cool in a single layer on a cookie sheet covered with wax paper.

Combine cheeses, eggs, parsley, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper; scoop mixture into a ziplock bag and snip one of the corners off the bag and use like an icing bag to fill each shell with about 2 tablespoons of filling. Lay shells back on wax paper covered cookie sheets and freeze. Once shells are frozen put into ziplock bags (2 bags with 20 shells is how I portion it out).

Cooking Instructions:
Thaw shells and spaghetti sauce in the fridge overnight. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray. Spread 1/2 cups sauce on the bottom of the dish. Arrange shells on top of sauce and pour remaining sauce evenly over the shells. Cover with foil and bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Uncover and if desired sprinkle with some shredded mozzarella cheese and parmesan; return to oven for a few minutes until cheese melts. Remove from oven and allow to stand for about 5 minutes before serving.

Notes:
- to cook from frozen, follow directions as above (just using frozen shells instead of thawed) and increase cooking time to 1 hour.
- this recipe either makes 1 or 2 meals depending on your family size. I do 20 shells in a 9x13 pan with 1 jar of sauce for my family of 4 served with garlic bread and fresh salad.
- perfect for meatless Mondays and Fridays

Beyblade Birthday Party

As requested, here is the nitty gritty of my little guy's Beyblade Bash to celebrate his 9th birthday. The details for the invite are HERE. Armed with this handy dandy rule book and with the help of my boys we came up with the coolest party ever, if I do say so myself ;)

We set up our living room with the 3 battle arenas they had, and hung up streamers with Arena 1, 2 and 3 labels on them so the competitors would know where to go. I stayed with the primary colors, red blue and yellow.

The boy and I spent over an hour coming up with the battle schedule. We had a regular season - everyone battled each other, followed by the playoffs and ending with a championship game. The regular season was spread out over the 3 arenas. Each contestant battled in an arena no more than 3 times. Each battle also had a referee...contestants that didn't have a battle at the time and a Dad where needed. Battles in the same slot started at the same time so those that finished early could watch the other battles. AND each battle was best of 3 to make it more interesting. Here is my master schedule with the referees handwritten in on the side.

To make it smoother and easier for the contestants, each one also received a laminated copy of their schedule. Laminating was done using the Xyron 510 machine and its laminating cartridge.

The cake - the Bakugan colors were perfect so I had the bakery at Walmart make me a cake following the Bakugan theme without the toys and added my own. I cut out the Beyblade logo from a Beyblade toy package and added a real Beyblade on the cake.

Last but not least, I bought a trophy from Target's dollar spot and decked it out with a Beyblade print.

The spotlight of this week is one my all time favorite sites to head to for sketches. I have been reading/using the sketches from this site from way back when. If you haven't heard of the website or blog, I'm sure you've seen their books.

Project 12 update

There are ten more days to the end of March. How are you doing on your Project 12 challenge? Anyone decided to jump on the bandwagon with me on this? I have January and February done. Planning on working on March and maybe even April at an all day crop* at the Greendale People's Church this Saturday. If you haven't started, there's still time to get on board. Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast...another slow cooker family favorite. Something that takes 30minutes prep in the morning, delicious smells all day and another 30 minutes to make the sides. A recipe from the All Recipes website. Enjoy!

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Ingredients

2 (10.75 ounce) cans condensed cream of mushroom soup
1 (1 ounce) package dry onion soup mix
1 1/4 cups water
5 1/2 pounds pot roast

Directions

In a slow cooker, mix cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix and water. Place pot roast in slow cooker and coat with soup mixture.
Cook on High setting for 3 to 4 hours, or on Low setting for 8 to 9 hours.

Notes:

1. I sometimes use a combo of cream of chicken and cream of mushroom...it all depends on what's in the pantry.

That would be me here in my scrap cave. Positively beaming! I've been messing around with Photoshop Elements for a while, learning through tutorials and trial and error. Today my little guy decided he had to have a Beyblade themed birthday party...and if you have a 9 yr old boy around, you know it's all the rage but there are no easy party supplies out there. Challenged with that, I decided to photoshop an invite, using images I copied off of their website. I'm pretty sure that's kosher as long as I am not selling the invites. I grabbed the background, an image (that I had to tediously cut out from the background), added some text and voila!

They also have a blog that has great tips and ideas. This post, I'd like to highlight a series of posts about stitching on layouts. There are ideas and how-to's on machine stitching, hand stitching and faux stitching. I personally have tried them all and find that faux stitching is the easiest method although I do like the look of hand stitching and machine stitching. Here are some layouts that I've done using the three different techniques.

What's Cooking? Chicken Spaghetti

In an effort to make more time for scrapping and making memories, I started using my slow cooker/crock pot more. I haven't quite learned to adapt recipes for the slow cooker but I have found some really great ones online and in recipe books. It occurred to me that maybe I should share these finds with my readers..I do get lightbulb moments once in a blue moon. I can't guarantee that I'll have a new recipe share every week as I tend to head for my go to recipes quite a bit. And to make it easier to find these recipes, I will add a page (see top of the page) that will have them all linked. Enjoy!

Slow Cooker Chicken Spaghetti - found over on the Clover Lane blog

Ingredients:

2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

1 cup water

1 packet of dry Italian dressing

1 can of cream of chicken soup (I use the 98% fat free kind)

1 bar or container of cream cheese (I use 1/3 fat free cream cheese)

1 box of pasta (I prefer thin spaghetti)

In crock pot:

Pour water, dry Italian dressing mix and cream of chicken soup into crock pot.

Stir together to mix. It will be lumpy, don't worry about it.

Add in chicken...it should land at the bottom of the pot.

Add in cream cheese...I leave the whole block sitting on the top of everything.

Cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours.

30 minutes before chicken is done, cook a box of thin spaghetti pasta.

Spoon chicken mixture over top on individual plates, serve with garlic bread and salad. Enjoy!

Notes:

I've used less than a whole bar of cream cheese, even down to half and can't tell the difference.

Cook pasta ahead and rinse in hot water (from tap) just before serving.

Scrapbook & Cards Today...an inspiration-filled free magazine. I don't know if there is a print copy but this e-magazine is definitely inspiration filled. Their editor is Becky Fleck, creator of Page Maps ie the queen of sketches.

I am in love with their Project 12...it is "an easy monthly challenge that will result in a complete “year in review” album at the end of 2010. It is so easy!" I think it will be a great way to start my family scrapbooks. Currently I have scrapbooks for each my boys, a yearly album from birthday to birthday, and vacation albums. No family albums *gasp*...how easy will it be to complete 12 layouts for each year? Plus some big trips/special occasion layouts included. Anyone want to join me? I will share my layouts here at the end of the month...3 layouts (Jan, Feb n March) by the end of this month and then 1 a month until the end of the year. I got my pictures in yesterday and sorted them out and am raring to start :) See for yourself...

Hello!

It's cold with a drizzle of freezing rain here in the New England. I'm so so ready for spring...how about yourself?

A shout out to the girls I met at the Andover Cool Crops weekend as well as Beth n Theresa's crop in Westoboro. Welcome to my mailing list! I have been teaching at the Holden Rec for over 2 years now. The place is great, easy to get to from I-190 and the people in the office very helpful. Have some in your stash? Not using the uber cool cardstock to its full potential? I stumbled onto this blog when I was looking for ideas and love the clean lines of her work. My favorite post is this "year of techniques" in which she writes,

"I have noticed from the Sitemeter thingy at the bottom of my blog that there are a lot of people cruising the internet right now looking for ideas on how to use Core'dinations ColorCore Cardstock .
Back in May of this year, I taught a class to retailer's at a warehouse in Ottawa, ON, Canada. They were in the same boat as many of you...looking for ideas to get themselves and their customers fired up about using Core'dinations.
Core'dinations is unique in the sense that it has a coordinating colour core and can be torn, sanded and antiqued. There is nothing better when you want to emboss either. Sanding can really enhance the embossing process.
The mini-album was designed to be hung in the area of their stores where Core'dinations is sold. There were no photos or journaling. Each page could be used as inspiration for a layout, card or altered project.
I hope you get some inspiration from it as well."

Bringing back my question of the week...

How long have you been scrapbooking? and what/how/why did you get started?

I have been scrapbooking the acid free way for almost 11 years now. It all started after graduating from college and getting married. We had just moved to Massachusetts...he was working and I was job hunting. We didn't know anyone so I found something to keep me busy. BUT even before all this, I collected memorabilia, jotted down memories and took a million photos ;) No post is complete without a picture, so I've attached one of my mini projects that were displayed at my I Remember When business debut.

I think I blinked and lost the first 2 weeks of January. Life is busy! Life is full! I have 4 events in January alone. I am playing catch up daily! How do you... ?

So it's the middle of the week. Life is busy but good. I am going through my stash and re-organizing. I am also going through my scrap-away bags and replenishing my "kits". When I say kits, I mean papers and embellies I have pulled together to go with certain pics so that when I'm at a crop/event, I can pull out a bag and start working right away without looking for the "right" paper or embellies. Half the work is already done. If I'm really ahead of my game, I even have sketches or ideas to go with the kits. All of that goes in rollie tote and I have a tool caddy with with my staples in it. How do you pack for a crop? Do you plan ahead or do you bring it all?

Today also, I organized and added a set of rubbermaid drawers (something new I put together) with 4 drawers...2 big and 2 small. One small has more tools and adhesives (Xyron X, cheetah, glue dots, crop-a-dile, etc). The other has what I call notions ie bling, buttons, flowers etc. One of the big drawers holds my journaling cards and alpha letters (all the ones in my stash). The other has what I have labeled colors ie Mists, stickles, inks and stamps. I am hoping this set up works so that...

1. I don't have to unpack when I get home from crops, the drawers will just sit next to my desk like it does when I'm away. Wouldn't that be great? And...
2. I have my stash with me at the crops. No more thinking, "Oh this would work great but it's at home!"

I'll keep you posted on how it works.

Another weekend with the Cool Crops gang. I had a great time although the whole weekend had a deja vu feel to it. The same games, same crew but different scrappers. But really, is there anything to complain about when I get to spend 2 back to back weekends with a great group of ladies?!?!?? Here's a peek into my weekend...the ladies during my Make n Take Saturday morning.

Theme challenge – Warm & Cozy. Interpret it however you want, the title, the feel of your layout. Just as long as it’s warm n cozy ;)

For this challenge you will create a layout using a countdown method of items. I will list five different kinds of things (eg. elements, papers, photos) for you to use in your layout.

5 – Numbers
4 - Cardstock or Solid Colored Papers
3 - Glitter Spots/Bling
2 - Photos
1 - Rub-on/Stamp

You can use more than these items just as long as you meet the required list and numbers asked for each.

I have had this "Spring Fever" rub-on in my stash forever and finally had the perfect pictures to go with it. At their school as a fundraiser, the kids have a crazy hat or hair day :) I didn't really have numbers so I added the month and year of the event to get the required numbers in. Glitter is stickles around the journaling block and in the middle of the flowers.

Technique challenge – bring out the sanding tools. Use your sanding tool that’s been sitting and collecting dust in your tool kit. Sand your paper, sand your embellishments or even sand your photos!

This was an easy challenge...just broke out the Jenni Bowlin embossed coredinations paper. Just a light sanding with my handy dandy Tim Holtz sander and I had a nice splash of color. The flowers are handmade and the wrinkled trim misted with Glimmer Mist.

Use your stash challenge - There's no specific number of any item on this just use everything on the list and have fun.

Wondering about my lack of circles? Well the dotted paper counts ;) And the flowers can be seen on the journaling spot. And while working on this layout, a fellow scrapper introduced me to a fabulous product called "liquid applique". I had never heard of it but it's magic. It goes on like elmer's glue and when heated, puffs up to give a puffy paint look!!! Check out my cupcake embellishments...

We always have a sketch challenge. This sketch is from the Sketch Savvy Blog.

Using the sketch as a guide, I added an extra photo on the left page and used the 5x7 photo block to fit two 4x6 photos. Instead of flowers, I used rub-ons and stars.

I'd love to see what you do with this sketch...do share!

Challenge #3

Technique challenge –Mist it baby! I recently started playing with mists and I love it. Make your own background paper with mist (smooch spritz, glimmer mist or maya mist).

Masked and misted the background cardstock, misted chipboard numbers and misted the ribbon as well.

Challenge #5

Create a background on a layout using your die-cutting machine! (Cricut, Sizzix, Slice etc...). Theme of your layout is your choice! Have fun!

Baseball is a die-cut using the Cricut and Sports Mania cartridge

Challenge #2

Use your stash challenge –let your page be inspired by the five senses--plus, your sixth sense.

touch - use textured paper

sight - use your favorite patterned paper in your stash

smell - use something on your page that, if real, would have a smell (e.g, flowers, cupcake accents, etc.)

taste - use food-related embellishments or paper

sound - use song-title or song lyrics somewhere on your page

AND

Challenge #6

Use nine squares on your page layout, with at least three of them being photos.
